We have been so thrilled to see the Orchard Cafe back in action since it closed its doors, and to see local faces Leroy Hand and Belinda Pilcher now at the helm was a welcome surprise! The duo have brought in an enthusiastic team and a fresh menu that we at the Integra offices are quickly making our way through! We sat down with Leroy to find out a bit about the last few months and his love of food and hospitality.
Tell us what these last few months have been like since moving into the Lucas Cafe.
We have been overwhelmed by the support of the local Lucas community and we absolutely love being apart of the morning coffee run and lunch rush for Ballarat’s most exciting new estate.
You have lots of great local produce incorporated into your menu – how important is this to you?
I’ve been a chef for 27 years and a trainer to the local industry for the past 7 years and nothing is more important to me than supporting local. We have the most passionate incredible producers in our region and it’s the reason why everything on our menu tastes so good.
Tell us a little about Taste Ballarat?
I created Taste Ballarat at the beginning of Covid 19 after our industry came to a standstill. It was an instant success thanks to the support of Wilsons fruit and Vegetables and Ryan’s IGA supermarkets. Taste Ballarat is made using 100% local ingredients from local suppliers and can be found as a feature ingredient in many of the dishes at the Orchard Cafe.
Finally the whole team at the Orchard Cafe want to say thank you for the support, we really do love our customers and look forward to being a part of the Lucas community for years to come.
Orchard Cafe is at 11 Coltman Plaza Lucas (inside the Wilsons store)
Opening Hours are: 7:30-4 Monday to Friday
